Q: How much does a new website cost?

A: The cost depends on the amount of functionality, coding, and design components involved. Please use the online quote form provided to obtain a more specific quote. In fact, our prices are much lower than that of other web design companies. See for yourself by taking a look at our approximate prices.

Q: How long does it take to design and build a new site?

A: Like above, it depends on the specific requirements, but a project with minimal functionality should take no more than 2 weeks from start to finish. When creating a website, we develop several parts of the site at the same time. This helps us to save your time.

Q: What does FTP stand for?

A: FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the means by which you or your web design company publish and update your site when you transfer files from your computer to the web server (host).

Q: I've seen sites advertised for free or less than a hundred dollars. Why should I pay for something I could get free?

A: Sites that are available for free, or very low cost, tend to be designed with a cookie-cutter type template. In other words, one size fits all. There is limited flexibility with style, colors, and format. TheAnotherWorld creates sites from scratch, working closely with the customer to develop an aesthetically pleasing and functional web site. Your unique web site results in an improved web presence and marketing tool.

Q: Do you do anything to speed up the load time?

A: Slow loading pages result in loss of visits and potential customers. TheAnotherWorld optimizes graphics, uses graphics in distinct and functional ways, and minimizes the total page size (bandwidth) to decrease the load time.

Q: What is involved in the preliminary design stage?

A: After the initial consultations (by phone, e-mail, quote form, ICQ), we will request relevant materials from you. Typically, this includes graphics, photos, site text and ideas you wish to incorporate into your site. Upon receipt of the requested materials, we will create rough designs from which you can pick your favorite. Time spent on this stage will depend on the project size and you will be advised on this at the start of your project.

Q: Do you use templates?

A: No templates. We ensure that each site we design is unique, based on both your existing company look and the guidelines you provide to us.

Q: Can I make changes to my site?

A: Once we have completed the whole design process, the web site is yours to do with as you please. However, any problems that may result from the changes you make are not covered by our free error correcting service.

Q: I hear that a Gateway/doorway page will increase my search engine ranking?

A: Absolutely not. Gateway pages (a page that appears before your home page that has been designed only for the sake of a search engine) are now considered spam by most search engines. They simply do not work, and may lead to a ban. It is far more important to produce a web site with quality, keyword rich content.

Q: Who owns my web site?

A: You own your web site. Once you have paid the balance to us, we transfer the copyright for the web site design to you.

Q: Is it required that I have my site hosted on your servers?

A: No. You are free to use any web host, as long as their server space has all of the necessary features required to run your site. We can recommend several hosts for you to look at. Please note that free ISP web space is not suitable for running a professional business site for a multitude of reasons. Also, the same can apply for many budget web hosts, so please choose your hosting space carefully.

Q: Why should I choose TheAnotherWorld to make my montage or restore my photos?

A: Cost. Restoring old photos using traditional darkroom methods is time consuming and therefore expensive. With the introduction of digital photography, the length of the restoration process is significantly decreased, making photo restoration and enhancement more cost-effective than ever. Quality guaranteed. Your images are handled by an artist with expertise in digital editing and restoration. Your results will look natural, not artificial. Plus, since we must receive your approval before the final printing, your satisfaction is absolutely guaranteed! You are the final editor!

Q: Do you repair my original photographs?

A: No. We only work with digitally scanned images. Your original photos are not altered in any way.

Q: What about enlargements?

A: We can enlarge an image two, perhaps three times. After that, the loss of quality becomes too apparent, and is not recommended. We can reduce the size of an image by any amount with no loss of quality.

Q: There are parts of the picture that have been torn off and lost. What can you do?

A: In many cases, there are ways around missing parts of pictures. However, if the parts are critical, like someone's face for example, that cannot be repaired unless we have another photo of that person that is very similar. This would have to be evaluated case by case.
